Vella Island is a Flat water paradise. Welcome with dark blue sea with shallow and flat water on other side. Trust me its an amazing place,Around 45 Minutes impressed boat ride and 30KM north of Kalpitiya that welcomes to have  their own spot if they liked. Vella island is an isolation place with few fisherman for company. On this Island there no any facilities as its a only fisherman’s island without any water and electricity. who cares ! but the conditions for kitesurfing are just Unrivaled.

Vella Island – Best spot to kite in Sri Lanka

Vella island is considred as one of the unbeatable kitesurfing spots in the world. Even best champions visit to Kaplitiya to do their training with steady offshore winds in summer season. However this island is not good for beginners due to the offshore winds. No worries, If you have basic skills of kitesurfing therefor this is the place fit for you.

Beach Camping Night on Vella Island

Think about overnight stay with full moon on a island, Hmm it should be a another level experience. Most of riders stay overnight in full moon and do the the kitesurfing at night, under the moon light on poya day. This should be a next level experience I have had in Sri Lanka so far. You can stay overnight in a fisherman hut with the full moon.

How to get into Vella Island Kalpitiya

Many Kitesurfing schools in Kalpitiya organize day trip and overnight trips to this Island with boat ride. Going to Wella Island is quite easy but returning bit challenge after 4.30 PM as there are many wave getting high Anyway, it is always worth going to this amazing island and stay overnight on a full moon poya day.
