Newgala Rock is a mountain and rock situated in Ambanpitiya Estate in Galigamuwa, Kegalle District, Sri Lanka. The name of the Nawgala, in English called ‘Rocky Ship’. It has come about due to its shape was like a ship and Telecommunications Towers along the range depicting the masts of a ship. It’s 320m (1,050 ft) in height at the highest point. Most of the travellers are like to trekking to Nawgala.
Trek to Nawgala (Navugala) Rock, Galigamuwa
Ambanpitiya Estate is situated along the lower part of this rock while Nawgala village is at the base of the rock. The Nawgala Range has a few houses and also a few Shrines (Devalaya) and one temple where people come to worship. Nawgala, which is the place to take best view points of Kegalle. travelers can see Uthuwankanda, Saradiel Rock, Alagalla, Wakirigala, Bathalegala, Urakanda, and Dolosbage famous mountains that can easily observed from this rock.

- It takes only 30-45 minutes to reach the top of the peak.
- Better clarify your path from villagers or line houses.
- It’s good to start on early morning. Go before 6.00 AM.
- If you have a vehicle can go up to line houses.
- Please note there is another Nawgala at Kurunegala district.
